A distinct and individual branding project for Capital Pride, the pride pageant was incredibly fun to create. Including signage, social media posts, and a pamphlet (which you can download and look at below!) this project was definitely one of my favourites to do this summer. It was so gratifying to be able to see the contestants reposting my work, and commenting on how much they liked it!
It was also a nice break from the main pride theme, after working with the same colours and assets for months, coming up with a new look and feel for these was a bit of a relief! I had a lot of fun setting up the metallic gold effect, and figuring out how to use all the different artist's photos within the same design spaces.
Drag artists can be a notoriously fickle and picky crowd, so designing for a drag event for the first time was a bit nerve-wracking! I initially wanted to try and keep the pageants theme in a somewhat similar theme to the main festival, but that quickly went out the window when I thought a bit harder about it. After all, these are DRAG ARTISTS! Their promos can't blend in with everything else!
Since the pageant hands out crowns and "Ms/Mx/Mr. Capital Pride" titles, I leaned a bit into a more royal and lavish look. I'll be the first to admit that I watched quite a few youtube tutorials to help me get the right metallic gold gradient I had my heart set on. In the end this project became something I was just as proud of as the main festival, and I honestly wish I'd been able to do more assets with this look. Maybe a personal side project to play with, the stars and gold are just too fun to leave alone!
